Many thanks to all our customers who made it out to the farm this summer. It was a challenging year because of the erratic weather, which diminished most of our crops, and precluded us from having any tree or vine fruit.
We tested three varieties of new strawberries this past summer: Jewel, AC Wendy and Malwina. While the Jewels produced the most consistent quality berries, the AC Wendy’s produced tastier and tastier berries as the season progressed, which makes it difficult to decide which to plant in our new field for next year.
We started replanting our raspberry field this past summer as last winter did a number on our brambles. Although we like a variety of different raspberries, the fall gold berries seem to be everyone’s favorite, and we plan to plant a lot of those. The blackberry vines are finally coming along, and we should have some blackberries to pick this upcoming summer.
Most of you have yet to try our hardy kiwi fruit, which we hope to have for u-pick this year. We have many different varieties, which resemble grapes, both small and large, and require no peeling as their skin is smooth and not fuzzy. They have more sugar content than their tropical cousins and are considered a super fruit because of their antioxidant properties.
The blueberries are our staple crop, and we have over 4,000 bushes. We love to brag that our blueberries have never been sprayed with anything, and fed with only the best of organic fertilizers. Ask anyone who’s tasted our blueberries and they will tell you they’re simply the best!
We produced another outstanding organic hemp crop this year, and added a new cultivar, ‘Cinderella Story’, which yielded more CBD than our other varieties as well as a rather distinct terpene profile.
