“Visionary” Wind-Powered, Organic Farm Celebrates Grand Opening June 27: Free Organic Confiture, Live Music, Educational Tours

Paul Cohn, owner of “Paul’s Organic Farm” will celebrate the grand opening of his “visionary” wind-powered, organic, self-sustaining farm in Colden, NY from 2- 6 pm Saturday, June 27. The party features live music by the popular Tommy Z Band, free berries and educational tours.

With a 1,500-square-foot greenhouse and outdoor tents, the grand opening will take place despite the bad weather! Plenty of parking is available and 2,500 square feet of covered space will protect our guests from the weather.

The farm, the first-of-a-kind in Western New York, includes a greenhouse/aquaponics facility powered by a wind turbine. The facility houses koi fish and is the centerpiece of what makes the farm self-sustaining.

“Paul is a visionary: a unique, upbeat guy,” said Ron Fraser, a former member of the town’s environmental board. “His farm is a great contribution to the community. Although Paul’s a businessman, he’s really excited about sharing how all this is done. It’s wonderful.”

“Paul is a visionary and unbelievably passionate about green energy, and nobody in Western New York is doing what he’s doing,” said Jonathan Schechter, Cohn’s attorney.

What’s most unique about the farm is its self-sustaining focus. Paul is raising 2,000 koi fish in two aquariums in the greenhouse, and the waste produced by those fish gets injected into his irrigation system and fertilizes all the plants on the farm.

“As a kid, Paul loved nature and his projects were neighborhood attractions,” said Lisa Cohn, his sister. “He had huge saltwater aquariums in his room that were stocked with fish. The neighbors used to pay entrance fees to watch him feed his fish.”

The 50-acre organic fruit farm includes unusual fruits such as hardy kiwi fruit, plumcots, paw paws, and a variety of blueberry, strawberry and raspberry plants that span the season.

Wind turbines like Paul’s provide clean energy, help wean the US of its dependence on fossil fuels and help reduce utility costs. Learn more about the benefits of the 174-foot tall, 50-kilowatt wind turbine here:

–Free organic strawberry confiture
–Games for Kids

“We’re very proud of Paul for following his dream, doing good things for the environment, and sharing his extensive knowledge with the public,” said Lisa Cohn.
